Avon lady hits 25-year service mark

Some would be lost without make-up, hair-care or beauty products. With limited retail outlets available in Deming, Frances Valverde steps up to deliver with a smile and with expertise acquired from over 25 years of ringing door bells in Deming.

"I started in 1981 while I was with the highway department," said Valverde, who turns 82 this year. "I retired from the highway department in 1988 and got much more involved with Avon."

Valverde's long career with Avon has been marked with great success, shown through her many awards and achievements.

"Frances is first in her district, which includes Lordsburg, parts of Las Cruces, Soccoro and Luna County," said Valverde's manager, Diana Clark. "She's proven her dedication over and over... Frances is an outstanding lady."

Clark went on to detail Valverde's accomplishments throughout the years.

"There are around 5,000 Avon representatives in New Mexico and Frances is ranked about 40th," Clark noted. "She has been inducted into the President's Club, which is a mark for selling in the top 15 percent."

Along with the President's Club, Valverde has been inducted into the McConnell Club, the Honor Society and the Rose Circle for outstanding sales.

Valverde credits her success to an outstanding client base and her group that she manages through Avon's Leadership Program.

"I've become good friends with my customers," Valverde said.

The key to Valverde's success has been a strict schedule. First, she sets out to get orders in person from homes and businesses. The following Wednesday, the orders arrive and are prepared on Thursday. By Friday, they are made available for customers for pickup or delivery.

"I lay in bed and think about all that I need to do the next day," Valverde said in a pondering sense. "I'm almost 82 and my mind feels like I'm 40."

Valverde has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is active with the River of Life CitiChurch and enjoys time with her family residing in Deming.

"Frances is an outstanding inspiration," said Clark. "She tops herself every year."
