Laser technology provides a skin resurfacing

Laser light penetrates to a controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, reducing the risk of scarring and pigmentation problems. The Coherent Ultra Pulse is the first and only laser to be granted marketing clearance from the FDA for increased collagen as a result of laser resurfacing.

Dr. Mark E. Van Wormer is a Board Certified Cosmetic Laser Surgeon - the only one in Texas or New Mexico and one of only 300 in the United States. Through Laser Skin Resurfacing, UltraPulse Laserwe are now able to remove surface imperfections and dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles with the UltraPulse 5000C Aesthetic Laser. We can gently remove sun damaged, aging skin layer by layer, helping protect and stimulate regeneration of a deeper, healthier skin.

Ultra Pulse 5000C Aesthetic Laser technology provides a skin resurfacing method which is virtually flawless and uniform. The skin heals rapidly; results are extraordinary. Facial skin can now be tightened through this procedure, as well as reviving a more youthful texture and removing unwanted pigmentation.

THE GreatSkin® DIFFERENCE
For optimal results, this procedure should be performed by a certified physician with the assistance of a licensed esthetician. Preoperative care by a well trained knowledgeable physician is the key to success. Post operative care, likewise, optimizes results. That is why we at Physicians GreatSkin® Clinics have such exceptional results: WE CARE! We spend countless hours at pre and post operative care. The actual procedure only takes about an hour. Its the preparation and the care for the resurfaced patient that counts.

Laser energy is delivered in short pulses which vaporizes only the top skin layers. This process allows the physician very precise control in removing and tightening the skin. Laser resurfacing is very effective for removing fine wrinkles around the eyes, lips, cheeks and forehead. Full facial resurfacing is replacing the surgical facelift in patients who cannot undergo surgery.

ABOUT YOUR SKIN
Epidermal Changes - The epidermis is the outer skin covering and protects the underlying layers. It is comprised of four layers. In cases of aging or sun damage, the outermost layer is thickened, becoming dry, rough and dull. Ultraviolet light encourages excess melanin production in the innermost layer causing age spots and unwanted pigmentation.

Dermal Changes - Underneath the epidermis lies the dermis, containing hair follicles, glands, nerve endings and blood vessels. The dermis is mostly collagen, the connective tissue that give skin its strength and elasticity. Collagen is in two layers, the upper papillary dermis and the deeper reticular dermis. Ultraviolet light ages the collagen and destroys the elasticity of the dermis. This is the cause of lines, wrinkles, thinning and sagging. As collagen disappears, spider veins appear.

ULTRA PULSE LASER SKIN RESURFACING
Laser Light - The laser generates an intense light beam. When it strikes the skin in cosmetic surgery, it is absorbed by the water of the skin. It heats tissue to a depth determined by the absorption length. The controlled wavelength of the cosmetic Ultra Pulse Laser is rapidly absorbed and does not penetrate the skin deeply. The rapid pulsation rate which is the "secret" of Ultra Pulse physics makes this laser the Cadillac of resurfacing. Underlying thermal damage is eliminated by the rapid pulsation allowing the skin to heal more rapidly.

Benefits of Laser Resurfacing - Cosmetic laser surgery safely removes aged, wrinkled facial and lid skin. Precise removal of this aged outer skin and underlying wrinkles allows human skin to replace itself. It stimulates the growth of new collagen, which continues for about six months after the procedure. This results in smoother, younger-looking, new skin. The laser actually vaporizes the water of the old tissue and carries away the disintegrated tissue as steam.

So, what is included in the Laser Resurfacing Process?

Pre-Treatment Prescribed Regimen:
A thorough medical history is taken and the client’s skincare needs and expectations are explored. The client is directed in a one month application of prescribed products, generally consisting of preparatory lotions, topical antioxidants and exfoliants, as well as anti-pigmentation compounds. These special compounds are designed to stimulate maximum collagen and elastin growth in the post procedure period for optimal laser resurfacing results.

The Big Day:
Laser Skin Resurfacing is bloodless and performed in-office, lowering the cost and avoiding the risks of hospitalization. Sedation is used for the laser treatment. There is no pain or recollection of the procedure, which takes about an hour for a full face resurfacing.

Aftercare:
The client will care for the face with ice packs. Ice packs are applied over an occulsive SILON II dressing for the first two days to minimize swelling. The physician and nursing staff visit the client at their hotel daily to evaluate the face, change dressings and provide the necessary psychologic support during early post procedure care. After two days of ice packs, a special cleansing and treatment regimen with special healing creams is begun. This period lasts about ten days. There is usually very little post procedure pain.

Healing Time:
Post procedure healing takes about two weeks, with a slight skin redness for about four weeks. The face continues to improve over time as collagen growth increases.
