Unsightly spots, lumps and bumps that appear a few days after shaving or waxing are usually caused by ingrowing hairs.
These occur when a strong hair curls back on itself and fails to reach the follicle (pore) opening. Sebum (or oil) builds up around the hair and causes a plug under the skin. It is when this plug becomes infected that the area swells up and can look angry and sore.
In some instances the hair may grow out of the follicle but become trapped under a fine layer of skin. You can see these hairs running along under the surface.
To help release the hairs and assist them to grow through properly you may want to try a specific ingrowing hair solution which you simply apply to dry skin. These treatments are very effective. Used daily they will help to prevent the ingrowing hairs from forming lumps and bumps and keep your skin clear and smooth.
Tips to help prevent ingrowing hairs.
Do not pick or squeeze an ingrowing hair as this will spread infection and can scar.
Use a body scrub once or twice a week to remove dead cells and free up trapped hairs.
Use a body lotion or moisturiser daily to keep skin soft and supple and to encourage hairs to grow through without obstruction.
