Sunblock

Cutting edge technology gives us a new perspective on the age-old problem of aging.

We've been hearing for years about summer skin risks and how when it comes to outdoor living, the sun is our biggest enemy. Whether it is swimming, sailing, or sunbathing, we all tend to have our guilty pleasure when it comes to activities that require sun exposure.

Taking into consideration the fact that our skin is affected by UVA & UVB rays even when we are doing something simple like driving our car, technology is stepping in and leading the way with an innovative new method in discovering exactly how much the sun is impacting our skin and our health.

This new software application called Clarity Pro, can show the exact depth and clarity of sun damage and wrinkles through a sophisiticated 3D chart. According to Raj Chhibber, CEO and founder of BrighTex Bio-Photonics, it can also show the amount of bacteria in your pores and represent UV damage. Additionally, it can predict for you just how much more fun in the sun your body can handle before further damage will incur.

Amazing advancement or scary experience? People who have tested the Silicon-Valley based program thus far have had mixed feelings regarding it, but one thing is for sure: knowledge is power. And with it comes the ability to truly protect ourselves from all the harsh realities of the environment from mild sunburns to life threatening skin cancer.

While the technology is not yet available to the public, it is set to be released next month to high-end spas, medical clinics, and cosmetic companies. With such an age-obsessed culture, Clarity Pro is sure to be a dream for both cosmetic sales companies as well as those of us who take pride in being both beauty and health conscience.

Until the technology is available, remember the simple things that you can do to prevent sun damage and premature aging. The Skin Cancer Foundation (skincancer.org) is a great place to research. They remind us to always wear a protective sunblock, even if you are just getting in your car and going to work. Many makeup products contain SPF in them so it is easy to be good to your skin!

Remember that UVA & UVB rays break through even on a cloudy day so you need to be protected year round. Also be sure to know your skin type. Fairskinned folks are more susceptible to sun damage. Lastly, be sure to do a thorough "spot check" on your skin from head to toe at least every three months. With the dawn of Clarity Pro and other advancements, it will become much easier to be skin smart. But common sense and good habits are up to you!
