Sizzling Summer Lips: How to Get Them

Sizzling Summer Lips: How to Get ThemThe temperatures are heating up, and it is time to say goodbye to the deep, rich hue of winter lipsticks in favor of the lighter and brighter shades of summer. But before you start painting on those luscious pink and coral tones, make sure that your lips are properly prepared to take the heat of the season. Any type of lipstick or gloss will glide on more smoothly if your lips are in good condition, so start your routine right with a healthy dose of TLC on your kisser!

All good lip care begins with a balm to keep lips soft and prevent chapping. In the summer, it is a good idea to select one that contains an SPF as well, since sun damage can occur in this area as easily as the rest of your skin. Apply your balm to your lips, and run the line just outside of your lip line to ensure full protection and give the skin around your mouth a bit of extra moisturizing.

From Moisture to Shine

Once your lips are moisturized and protected, it is time to add some pizzazz. The buzz words of this season are sheer, shiny and scented when it comes to your lip candy. Go for the sheer pinks and corals that will complement your sun-kissed summer skin beautifully, and add shine with the many glosses that are hot this year. For another look, there are a number of lipsticks and glosses that come with shimmer and sparkle for nighttime dazzle. A hint of color with plenty of polish will give you the perfect look for warm summer days and nights. Think “Pretty in Pink” meets “Shine.”

Scents appear to be popular this summer as well, with many tropical fruit flavors to choose from. Don’t the scented glosses just take you back to the days of root beer and bubble gum flavored lip balm that was a hit in your junior high years? I still remember carrying those roll-ons around like trophies and applying them in the girls’ bathroom between classes. This year, why not try out a passionflower scented gloss for a tropical feel, or maybe a cherry coke flavor for a dash of fun?

The good news about today’s lipsticks and glosses is that they will last longer and hydrate better than those that were picks in years past. That is good news indeed if you are concerned about keeping summer lips looking their best when the sun begins to beat down. It’s time to head to the mall and pick out those colors for summer. Shine on.
