Scientists say conclusive data shows there's no question circumcision reduces men's chances of catching H-I-V by up to 60 percent.
The two U-S studies in Kenya and Uganda confirm similar results from an earlier trial in South Africa.
While experts are hailing it as a major breakthrough, the question now they say is how to put it to work to combat the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
The experts warn that solid evidence is not justification for mass circumcisions. They note that African health systems are already overburdened, and circumcision requires more planning than an immunization campaign. They also say male circumcision is a sensitive religious and cultural issue.
The full data from the trials, carried out by the National Institutes of Health, are published Friday in The Lancet.
