Cosmetic surgery isn't just facelifts and nosejobs and breast enhancements and tummy tucks anymore. If you have that one body part whose shape really bugs you, check out what one woman recently decided to do .
Dr. Emily Senay with CBS News has the story:
Marcia Kline considers herself lucky. Fit and trim at 45 she isn't looking to turn back the clock. In fact she is happy with her looks in almost every way, but one. Marcia cant make peace with her flabby knees.
"I come from a long history of flabby kneed women I guess you can say. My mom has the affliction, my sister as well.
No matter how she exercises Marcia still can't get the look she wants. "You get to the point in your life where you choose clothes
that are enhancing to you, and I feel like I avoid things that are a little bit on the shorter side because of my knees."
So Marcia has turned to Dr. Howard Sobel, a cosmetic dermatologic surgeon in New York City, who performs liposuction.
This so called "body sculpting" isn't like lipo of the old days when doctors removed gallons of fat. Now slim women come in wanting
refinement of a small area; not a total overhaul.
"Some people come in for knees. Some people do underneath their arms. Some people do their necks," says Sobel.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery estimates more than 52,000 women and 15,000 men underwent liposuction last year. Most were small procedures like Marcia's.
"It's about contour," Sobel points out. "It's about changing the shape of your body. It's not about losing weight at all.
The procedure takes less than an hour. Marcia goes back to work the next day. And seven weeks later, the bulges we saw the day we first met her, are gone.
And Marcia Kline is thrilled with the results. "What's more important than how you feel? It's just an extension of that. So the fact that I feel better about my legs, it's priceless."
Actually, there is a price tag. A procedure like this one will set a patient back around $2,500.
