Walking or yoga eases symptoms and increases quality of life for women during menopause, according to a Pennsylvania State University study.
The study in the journal Annals of Behavioral Medicine showed both walking and yoga were effective at enhancing quality of life. Women who saw a decrease in their menopause symptoms also gained more positive mental-health and quality-of-life outcomes.
The surprising aspect of the study is the fact we found a significant association between changes in cardiorespiratory fitness and changes in menopausal symptoms, lead author Steriani Elavsky said in a statement. This is contrary to other studies, which previously reported no associations.
Both walking, an aerobic activity, and yoga, not an aerobic activity, were chosen for diversity in the study.
